Smartphone cameras are getting better and better with each new model that comes out. It’s reached the point where it’s hard to tell sometimes if a photo was taken on the latest iPhone or Samsung Galaxy or if it was taken on a high-end camera that’s triple the price. It’s all about who took the photo and what their skill level is.

If you have a top-of-the-range smartphone and are interested in photography, you should consider upping your game with some accessories. With the right tools, you can capture incredible moments while on the go and without having to spend a fortune on equipment.

A Tripod

The first thing you want to get is a tripod. You get tiny tabletop tripods and tripods that are as tall as you. All sizes are useful in different scenarios and as you work out what kind of photography you’re interested in, you can see what size tripod works best for you.

The most important thing to look for is a good mobile phone clamp that securely holds your phone without putting too much pressure on the device. You get ones that rotate while on the tripod, and they are incredibly useful for switching between portrait and landscape mode. Another thing to look for on your clamp or tripod is a spirit level, which will help you to ensure your photos are straight.

External Lenses

One of the biggest downfalls of mobile phone photography is that you are very limited in your lenses. Even with the smart phones that come with three cameras on the back still limit you far more than just about any DSLR camera. In terms of zoom, most of what you’re able to do on a smartphone is digital zoom, which decreases the quality of your image.

This is why many companies have being developing external lenses that you can clip onto your smart phone. You can buy entire kits that give you far more control over the image you want to capture. You get wide angle lenses, telephoto lenses and macro lenses, and everything in between.

Extra Lighting

Depending on what you want to shoot, there are a number of different lighting options that you can attach to your phone or set up independently. You get small clip-on lights that are simple LEDs and give you a softer finish then a flash would. These are useful for portrait photography.

Then there are larger lights that are USB powered or battery powered and require a rig to attach to your phone – the same phone you can use to find sports betting guides online. These come in the form of rings or light banks. They are great for shooting subjects that are fairly close to the camera and you just need a touch more light to make the photo perfect.

You also get lightboxes that are standalone rigs meant for product photography. They come in a range of different sizes for small individual items all the way through to almost full studio size. These are perfect for creating a soft, all-round lighting effect so that your subject is entirely the focus of the photo.
